The Company is proud to host the Lafarge Lusaka Marathon 2015. It is Lafarge's ambition to associate Zambia's city with a great road race that is similar to many other great cities in the world such as Paris, London, New York, Mumbai or Nairobi. With the inauguration of the Lafarge Lusaka Marathon 2012 Lusaka City can now count itself among them.
Lafarge's sponsorship of the Lusaka Marathon stems from the Company's global ambition to contribute to Building Better Cities; cities that are more compact, better connected, more beautiful, durable and provide more housing for all. Primarily, this ambition is driven by innovative and cost-effective building materials as well as construction solutions that are designed with our customers in mind. However, a city is more than just buildings and roadways - a city is made up of its people, and the healthier and happier they are, the better their city becomes. For this reason, the health and well-being of communities and dedicated employees remain the Company's focus. That's why the Company's number one priority continues to be health and safety. Providing primary health care services using initiatives like Lafarge Mobile Health Clinic and the Lafarge Lusaka Marathon are all aimed at promoting good health in society.
The Lafarge Lusaka Marathon is also expected to raise proceeds that will go towards supporting various institutions in need namely the Mother of Mercy Hospice in Chilanga and Arthur Davidson Children's Hospital in Ndola among others.
Running and walking are wonderful ways to get fit, stay healthy and enjoy the outdoors in the company of friends and family. This is what this event will achieve for you. I'd like to wish all the participants in the marathon, the lOkm race and the 5km family walk good luck and good health! Even if you're not participating, be sure to come cheer for your friends, family and colleagues at Levy Junction Business Centre on 18th April 2015.
I would also like to thank all the partners that have made this event possible especially ZAAA, Madison General Insurance, Levy Business Park, RTSA, Lusaka City Council, Muvi TV, ZNBC, H2O water, Doctors Outreach Care International, Zambia Police, AM Motors and many others.
This tool kit has been made available to help you prepare for this exciting event. Take time to practice some of the suggestions and do get in touch with the organising committee for any further assistance.
The Lafarge Lusaka Marathon is an exciting event that brings everyone together for a day of celebrating health and wellness in the capital city. Take care and always observe safety precautions while on the road.
Have a safe and fun day.
